Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; 16 Februari 2026 – Akiba Commercial Bank Plc (ACB) imeendelea kuimarisha ushirikiano wake na wadau wa vyombo vya habari kama sehemu ya juhudi zake za kuendeleza Elimu ya Fedha na kukuza huduma jumuishi za kifedha.
Kwa kutambua mchango wa vyombo vya habari kama daraja muhimu kati ya taasisi za kifedha na umma, Benki inathamini na kutambua umuhimu wa vyombo vya habari katika kueneza ujumbe wa elimu ya fedha. Kupitia magazeti, runinga, redio na majukwaa ya kidijitali, vyombo vya habari vina uwezo wa kufikia hadhira mbalimbali na kueneza Elimu ya Fedha na hivyo kuwezesha jamii kufanya maamuzi sahihi ya maswala ya kifedha.

Akizungumza wakati wa kikao na vyombo mbali mbali vya habari, Dora Saria, Mkuu wa Masoko na Mawasiliano, alisisitiza kuwa elimu ya fedha ni kipaumbele cha kimkakati kinacholenga kuiwezesha jamii kuwa na uelewa wa maswala ya akiba, ukopaji na uwajibikaji, huduma za kifedha za kidijitali, fursa za uwekezaji na mbinu bora za usimamizi wa fedha. Aliongeza kuwa kwa kukuza utoaji wa Elimu za Fedha na kuhimiza matumizi makini ya huduma za kibenki jamii itaweza kunufaika kiuchumi na kimaendeleo.
Alibainisha zaidi kuwa kadiri taswira ya kifedha nchini Tanzania inavyobadilika, hasa kupitia kuongezeka kwa matumizi ya kidijitali, umuhimu wa elimu ya kifedha unaongezeka sambamba na mabadiliko hayo na hivyo kupelekea kuongezeka kwa juhudi na kipaumbele cha kuelemisha jamii katika uelewa wa Elimu ya Fedha.

Kupitia mkutano huo, Benki pia ilishirikisha vyombo vya habari vipaumbele vyake vya kimkakati kwa mwaka 2026, kwa kuainisha ukuzaji na upanuzi wa huduma za Kidijitali kwa ajili ya kuleta ufanisi na kuimarisha uzoefu wa wateja na viwango vya uridhikaji katika utoaji huduma.

Akiba Commercial Bank Plc itaendelea kushirikiana kwa karibu na wadau wa vyombo vya habari ili kuimarisha uwazi, kujenga imani ya umma katika sekta ya kifedha na kutoa ya elimu ya kifedha nchini.

• Absa announces several strategic executive appointments to strengthen leadership capability across the Group, following the finalisation of its refocused Group Pan-African Strategy.

Absa announces the appointment of Sitoyo Lopokoiyit as Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking, effective 1 April 2026. A highly experienced industry leader, Lopokoiyit brings deep expertise in financial services, telecoms, customer value propositions and experience, and large-scale business transformation.

This appointment represents an important step in Absa’s ongoing focus on delivering integrated, customer centric solutions across its Personal and Private Banking franchise, while also exploring new growth opportunities.

Lopokoiyit was most recently the Managing Director of M-PESA Africa and Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom, where he led the strategy and growth of Africa’s largest fintech platform. With more than 12 years of experience in fintech, Lopokoiyit has played a central role in scaling M-PESA into a continental powerhouse, serving over 56 million customers and more than 5 million businesses. He was appointed to lead M-PESA Africa, the joint venture between Safaricom and Vodacom, with a mandate to expand the platform’s reach and relevance across African markets.

Since joining Safaricom in 2011, Lopokoiyit held several senior leadership roles, including Head of M-PESA Strategy and Business Development, and has led operations in Tanzania. He has driven the launch of major innovations such as the M-PESA Super App, Fuliza, and strategic partnerships with global platforms including PayPal and AliPay.

Lopokoiyit’s impact on financial inclusion has been recognised globally, including his induction into the 11:FS Hall of Fame, which honours industry leaders and innovators who have significantly improved the financial services ecosystem through innovation, resilience, and pioneering work. He is deeply committed to empowering small businesses, advancing inclusive financial services and accelerating the adoption of digital payments across the continent.

A highly respected governance professional, Prabashni brings extensive experience across audit, risk, regulatory engagement, and organisational assurance. Rushdi Solomons is promoted to Group Chief Internal Audit Officer, effective 1 March 2026. Solomons was the Managing Executive: Compliance Strategy, Regulatory Relations and Governance, a role he has held since June 2025. Prior to his current role, Rushdi was Chief Operating Officer in Group Internal Audit, a role he held since joining Absa in June 2020. Before joining Absa, Rushdi held roles as Partner: Deloitte Risk Advisory; Acting Business Executive: Auditor-General of SA; PwC (Advisory and Audit & Assurance) where he completed his Articles. He has extensive experience servicing various clients in the Public and Private Sectors.

Fatima Newman has been appointed Chief Compliance Officer, effective 1 March 2026. Newman is a strategically minded Executive with 28 years’ experience across a range of industries and expertise in Risk, Compliance, Regulatory and Governance, and Financial Services. She has led with an innovation and systems thinking approach, working through complexities and implementing suitable and fit for purpose solutions including as Chief Risk Officer at EOH Group Limited (EOH). Newman has held senior roles in Absa, EasyHQ, EOH, and MTN South Africa.

Portwest Deepens East African Footprint with Apparel Manufacturing Investment in TanzaniaDar es Salaam, Tanzania

Portwest, the world’s fastest-growing manufacturer and distributor of workwear, safety wear and personal protective equipment (PPE), has strengthened its presence in East Africa with the operationalization of a new apparel manufacturing facility in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania—positioning the country as a strategic hub within the company’s global supply chain.

The investment has received strong support from the Government of Tanzania, which reiterated its commitment to creating a conducive environment for local and foreign investors.

Speaking during the official visit to the facility, Assistant Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Denis Londo, said the Government will continue to implement investor-friendly policies and legal frameworks to attract industrial investments.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Industry and Trade, will continue to put in place enabling policies, laws and regulations to attract investors and support the establishment of industries in the country,” said Hon. Londo.

Investments such as this apparel manufacturing facility demonstrate growing confidence in Tanzania’s industrial environment and our commitment to building a strong manufacturing base that creates jobs and adds value locally.

Founded in 1904 in Ireland and still owned and managed by the Hughes family, Portwest operates in more than 150 countries and employs over 5,500 people globally. The company is internationally recognised for innovation in occupational safety solutions, producing flame-resistant and high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, PPE accessories and fall-protection equipment.

The Dar es Salaam facility is currently employing 200 workers, with existing infrastructure capable of scaling up to 1,000 direct jobs. The investment is expected to contribute significantly to skills development, technology transfer and value addition, in line with Tanzania’s industrialisation agenda and the objectives of the East African Community (EAC).

Meanwhile, Human Resources Manager of the facility, Ms. Anna Lucas, revealed that the company has invested more than USD 8.8 million in the project.

This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Tanzania. Beyond production, we are creating sustainable employment opportunities for Tanzanian youth and contributing to skills development within the local workforce,” she said.

Some employees also noted that the factory has played a vital role in addressing youth unemployment by providing stable jobs and professional training opportunities.

Nasreen Karim Abdallah alikabidhiwa mfano wa hundi yenye thamani ya shilingi milioni 30, baada ya kuibuka mshindi wa droo kubwa iliyofanyika januari 21 mwaka huu, huku washindi wengine wa kila mwezi akiwemo Bw. Abdulrazak Ali Seif aliyepata TZS milioni 10, Bi. Aysha Mbarak Meghji aliyepata TZS milioni 5, na Bw. Gibbons Samuel Katule aliyepata TZS milioni 3 na wote kwa pamoja wakithibisha fedha hizo kuingizwa katika akaunti zao.

Akizungumza katika hafla hiyo, Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Benki ya Absa Tanzania, Bw. Obedi Laiser alisema, kampeni hiyo ililenga katika kuwazawadia wateja wao kwa kuendelea kutumia huduma za kibenki zilizo salama, rahisi na za kisasa; “Zaidi ya zawadi, tunajivunia mabadiliko chanya tuliyoyaona kuelekea matumizi ya miamala isiyo ya fedha taslimu, ambayo huokoa muda, hupunguza hatari na kuchangia ujumuishi wa kifedha, hafla ya leo inaashiria mafanikio ya kampeni ambayo yamebadilisha maisha ya watu wengi.

Dhamira yetu iko wazi, Kuiwezesha Afrika ya kesho, pamoja, hatua moja baada ya nyingine. Kila kampeni, kila ubunifu na kila zawadi tunayotoa inaongozwa na imani yetu kwamba Stori yako ina thamani”, alisema Bw. Laiser.

Kampeni hiyo ilionesha ongezeko kubwa la matumizi ya kadi na huduma za kidijitali, ikithibitisha mwelekeo unaokua wa wateja kupendelea huduma za kibenki zinazopatikana muda wowote na mahali popote, huku zikisaidia kupunguza foleni ndefu katika matawi na kuongeza kasi, usalama na urahisi wa huduma.

Akizungumzia mafanikio ya kampeni hiyo, Bi. Ndabu Swere alisema; Kampeni ya “Ujanja ni Kuswipe na Kadi ya Absa” inaonesha jinsi miamala midogo ya kila siku inavyoweza kuwa na nguvu kubwa. Wateja waliitikia vyema, wakidumu katika kufanya miamala kwa njia za kidijitali, na kwa upande wetu tuliweza kuwazawadia uaminifu wao kwa njia yenye maana.

Kwa upande wake, mshindi wa zawadi kubwa, Bi. Nasreen Karim Abdallah, aliishukuru Benki ya Absa kwa zawadi hiyo, akisema ushindi huo ni hatua muhimu katika maisha yake. Alibainisha pia urahisi wa kushiriki kampeni hiyo kwa kutumia tu kadi katika miamala ya kila siku.

Kilichonivutia zaidi ni urahisi wa kushiriki, ni kutumia tu kadi yangu kwenye matumizi ya kawaida. Zawadi hii haithibitishi tu umuhimu wa huduma za kidijitali katika maisha yetu ya kila siku, bali pia ni ya kubadilisha maisha,” alisema.

Benki ya Absa Tanzania imethibitisha dhamira yake ya kuendelea kubuni bidhaa na kampeni zinazowaletea wateja thamani zaidi, ikikumbusha kuwa mwaka 2024 benki hiyo ilitoa zawadi ya magari matatu na mwaka 2025 imetoa TZS milioni 120 kama zawadi za fedha taslimu.

Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Absa Bank akutana na Mkurugenzi wa Benki ya Dunia kwa Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia na Zimbabwe kuimarisha Mahusiano ya kibiashara.

   

Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Benki ya Absa Tanzania, Bw. Obedi Laiser (kulia), akiagana na Bw. Nathan Belete, Mkurugenzi wa Benki ya Dunia anayesimamia Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia na Zimbabwe, baada ya mkutano wa kimkakati wa kibiashara uliofanyika hivi karibuni katika Hoteli ya Hyatt Regency Park jijini Dar es Salaam. Mkutano huo ulilenga kuimarisha ushirikiano kati ya taasisi hizo mbili.
