Hafla hiyo ilifanyika kwenye hotel ya Madinat Al Bahr, Zanzibar ikihusisha wateja na wadau mbalimbali wa benki hiyo wakiwemo viongozi wa serikali na dini akiwemo Naibu Mufti Mkuu wa Zanzibar, Sheikh Mahmoud Mussa Wadi. Mkurugenzi wa Idara ya Mikopo wa NBC, Bw Saleh Mohammed alimuwakilisha Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa benki hiyo Bw Theobald Sabi kwenye hafla hiyo iliyohudhuriwa pia na wafanyakazi wa benki ya NBC.

Pamoja na ushiriki huo Mhe Abdulla aliishukuru na kuipongeza NBC kwa kuandaa tukio hilo la kiimani, akieleza kuwa ni ishara ya moyo wa kujali na kujenga mahusiano imara na jamii.

Alitoa shukrani za dhati kwa niaba ya Serikali ya Mapinduzi Zanzibar kwa kutambua mchango wa NBC katika maendeleo ya visiwa hivyo—kuanzia msaada wa kifedha, ushauri wa kitaalamu, hadi ushiriki wake katika mipango mbalimbali ya kijamii na kiuchumi.

Kushiriki futari kama hii pamoja na wadau mbalimbali wakiwemo wateja wenu ni jambo la heri, hususan katika mwezi huu Mtukufu wa Ramadhani. Ni thamani kubwa kwenu kama waandaaji, kwetu kama walengwa, na mbele ya Mwenyezi Mungu pia… tunawashukuru sana,” alisema.

Aliongeza kuwa NBC imeendelea kujidhihirisha kama taasisi inayojitoa kwa dhati katika juhudi za kiimani na kimaendeleo, jambo lililomfanya kuupa kipaumbele mwaliko huo ili kufikisha shukrani zake binafsi na za serikali.

“Kupitia matukio kama haya, Wazanzibar wengi zaidi wanavutiwa kuwa karibu nanyi, si tu kibiashara bali kwa sababu mmeonesha kuwa uhusiano wenu na wateja ni zaidi ya miamala ya kibenki,” alisisitiza.

Aidha, alibainisha kuwa Serikali ya Mapinduzi Zanzibar inaendelea kuweka mazingira wezeshi kwa taasisi za fedha ili ziweze kunufaika na ukuaji wa uchumi unaochochewa na miradi ya maendeleo pamoja na sekta muhimu kama utalii, biashara na uvuvi.

Kwa upande wake, Bw. Saleh Mohammed alisema kuwa kuandaa futari katika mikoa mbalimbali, ikiwemo Zanzibar, ni sehemu ya utamaduni wa NBC unaolenga kuimarisha ukaribu na jamii.

Alieleza kuwa mafanikio ya benki hiyo, ikiwemo ongezeko la wateja mikoa mbalimbali pamoja na visiwani Zanzibar, yanatokana na mahusiano mazuri na utoaji wa huduma unaozingatia mahitaji halisi ya wateja, ikiwemo misingi ya kiimani.

Alitolea mfano huduma ya La’ Riba, inayowezesha wateja wenye imani ya Kiislamu kupata huduma za kifedha zinazoendana na misingi ya dini yao.

Sambamba na hilo, alibainisha kuwa NBC imeendelea kuboresha huduma za kidijitali ili kuwapa wateja urahisi zaidi, ikiwemo kufungua akaunti kwa njia ya mtandao, kufanya malipo ya serikali (GEPG), kununua umeme , pamoja na kulipa ankara mbalimbali kwa urahisi.

Tunaendelea kuwaalika wateja wetu kutumia NBC Kiganjani App, NBC Connect, mashine zetu za POS na kadi zetu za malipo ili kufurahia huduma za kibenki zilizo salama, za haraka na za kisasa zaidi,” alisema.

Hafla hiyo ilihitimishwa kwa utoaji wa zawadi kwa wageni waalikwa na kutoa fursa ya kubadilishana mawazo, kuimarisha mtandao wa kibiashara na kijamii, pamoja na kusherehekea kwa pamoja katika mwezi huu mtukufu wa Ramadhani.

Talent today is more informed, more mobile, and more values driven. Organisations are being reshaped by digitisation, AI, shifting customer expectations, and rising demands for trust. In this context, EVP is not an HR slogan; it’s a strategic capability: the ability to consistently attract, develop, engage, and retain the people who deliver the strategy.

A Tanzania‑Specific Action Framework

Quarter 1: Diagnose and Design
  • Run an EVP audit across segments (branch, corporate, tech) to test fit‑for‑purpose on growth, fairness, belonging, and purpose.
  • Stand up a Teams‑based policy assistant grounded in the HR Policy PDF; require citations and “handbook‑only” answers.
Quarter 2: Build Manager Muscle
  • Launch a manager capability sprint: inclusive leadership, feedback, and coaching. Tie to mobility pathways and learning plans.
Quarter 3: Scale Growth & Belonging
  • Publish clear internal mobility rules and skills pathways; celebrate cross‑functional moves.
  • Deepen inclusion with visible accountability (e.g., quarterly leadership scorecards on progression and representation).
Quarter 4: Institutionalise and Communicate
  • Refresh external employer narrative with proof points (progression data, leadership stories, community impact).
  • Update the policy knowledge base with any approved changes; keep the Teams assistant evergreen.

STRENGTHENING TANZANIA’S FINANCIAL MARKETS: REFLECTIONS ON THE AFMI 2025 REPORT

The recent launch of the Absa Africa Financial Markets Index (AFMI) 2025 here in Dar es Salaam gave us an important moment to look at the progress Tanzania has made in developing its financial markets—and to recognize the areas where more work is still needed.

For nine years, the AFMI has been one of Africa’s most trusted tools for assessing how financial markets are growing. It does more than rank countries. It helps governments, regulators, and financial institutions understand what is working well, what needs improvement, and where reforms can have the biggest impact.

The 2025 report shows that Tanzania is moving forward steadily, supported by a foundation of stability, but also highlights opportunities for further growth

A foundation of stability and transparency

One of the most positive findings from this year’s report is Tanzania’s continued strength in macroeconomic stability. Our country has enjoyed steady and predictable monetary policy; low and stable inflation and more open and consistent communication from policymakers. These elements help build investor confidence. They also create a stable environment for businesses and households

The report also reflects steady improvements in market infrastructure and the regulatory environment. Ongoing efforts to strengthen market governance, align frameworks with international standards and enhance transparency across key segments of the financial system are beginning to show results. This progress is not accidental; it is the outcome of sustained commitment by policymakers and regulators to build a credible and resilient financial ecosystem.

Growing Market Activity and Financial Products

The Absa AFMI 2025 further points to gradual but meaningful advances in market depth. Tanzania’s financial markets are becoming more diverse, with a broader range of instruments and increased use of capital market solutions. While bank financing remains dominant, the growing role of bonds, structured products and risk management tools signals an important shift towards a more balanced financial system.

From a global markets’ perspective, these developments are critical. Deeper markets enhance liquidity, improve price discovery and reduce concentration risk. Over time, they also lower the cost of capital for both government and the private sector - freeing up resources for productive investment and economic growth.

Where More Effort is Needed

While we have made progress, the report also points out areas that need more focused attention.

a) Low participation from local institutional investors

Pension funds, which are long-term investors, play a vital role in deepening financial markets. Tanzania still lags behind other markets in this area. Increasing their participation would help provide a steady source of local capital.

b) Strengthening legal and institutional frameworks

Clear rules and effective enforcement—especially around financial contracts and insolvency—are critical for building trust. These are not technical issues; they directly affect how confident investors feel about committing long-term funds.

c) Improving financial literacy and access

Technology has already helped expand access to financial services. But more still needs to be done to ensure that ordinary citizens and small businesses understand and can meaningfully participate in financial markets.

Looking ahead: A positive Policy Direction

Encouragingly, the policy direction articulated by the Government and the central bank aligns closely with the reform priorities highlighted in the Index. Continued efforts to deepen capital markets, modernize legal frameworks, strengthen pension fund participation and support product innovation are likely to have a compounding effect over time.

If pursued with consistency, these actions can fundamentally reshape Tanzania’s financial markets - enhancing liquidity, improving resilience to external shocks, and positioning the country as a more competitive investment destination within the region. The benefits would extend well beyond the financial sector, supporting private sector growth, infrastructure development and broader economic transformation.

A shared responsibility

Ultimately, building deep and resilient financial markets is not the responsibility of any single institution. It requires collaboration across government, regulators, financial institutions, market infrastructure providers and the private sector. The AFMI serves as a valuable common reference point - one that helps align ambition with evidence.

The discussions during the report launch made one thing clear: Tanzania has built a solid foundation. The next step is to accelerate reforms so that our financial markets grow stronger and support the country’s long-term aspirations

Our journey has begun. With continued collaboration and dedication, Tanzania’s financial markets can move from steady progress to truly transformative change.

Alibainisha zaidi kuwa kadiri taswira ya kifedha nchini Tanzania inavyobadilika, hasa kupitia kuongezeka kwa matumizi ya kidijitali, umuhimu wa elimu ya kifedha unaongezeka sambamba na mabadiliko hayo na hivyo kupelekea kuongezeka kwa juhudi na kipaumbele cha kuelemisha jamii katika uelewa wa Elimu ya Fedha.

Kupitia mkutano huo, Benki pia ilishirikisha vyombo vya habari vipaumbele vyake vya kimkakati kwa mwaka 2026, kwa kuainisha ukuzaji na upanuzi wa huduma za Kidijitali kwa ajili ya kuleta ufanisi na kuimarisha uzoefu wa wateja na viwango vya uridhikaji katika utoaji huduma.

ABSA GROUP ANNOUNCES KEY EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENTS

• Absa announces several strategic executive appointments to strengthen leadership capability across the Group, following the finalisation of its refocused Group Pan-African Strategy.

• Highly experienced multi-industry leader, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, is appointed as Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking.

Following the finalisation of its refocused Group Pan-African Strategy, Absa Group today announced a number of executive leadership changes, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to enhanced strategic capability, customer-led growth, strong governance, succession planning and deepened leadership bench strength across the organisation.

Absa announces the appointment of Sitoyo Lopokoiyit as Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking, effective 1 April 2026. A highly experienced industry leader, Lopokoiyit brings deep expertise in financial services, telecoms, customer value propositions and experience, and large-scale business transformation.

This appointment represents an important step in Absa’s ongoing focus on delivering integrated, customer centric solutions across its Personal and Private Banking franchise, while also exploring new growth opportunities.

Lopokoiyit was most recently the Managing Director of M-PESA Africa and Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom, where he led the strategy and growth of Africa’s largest fintech platform. With more than 12 years of experience in fintech, Lopokoiyit has played a central role in scaling M-PESA into a continental powerhouse, serving over 56 million customers and more than 5 million businesses. He was appointed to lead M-PESA Africa, the joint venture between Safaricom and Vodacom, with a mandate to expand the platform’s reach and relevance across African markets.

Since joining Safaricom in 2011, Lopokoiyit held several senior leadership roles, including Head of M-PESA Strategy and Business Development, and has led operations in Tanzania. He has driven the launch of major innovations such as the M-PESA Super App, Fuliza, and strategic partnerships with global platforms including PayPal and AliPay.

Lopokoiyit’s impact on financial inclusion has been recognised globally, including his induction into the 11:FS Hall of Fame, which honours industry leaders and innovators who have significantly improved the financial services ecosystem through innovation, resilience, and pioneering work. He is deeply committed to empowering small businesses, advancing inclusive financial services and accelerating the adoption of digital payments across the continent.

A highly respected governance professional, Prabashni brings extensive experience across audit, risk, regulatory engagement, and organisational assurance. Rushdi Solomons is promoted to Group Chief Internal Audit Officer, effective 1 March 2026. Solomons was the Managing Executive: Compliance Strategy, Regulatory Relations and Governance, a role he has held since June 2025. Prior to his current role, Rushdi was Chief Operating Officer in Group Internal Audit, a role he held since joining Absa in June 2020. Before joining Absa, Rushdi held roles as Partner: Deloitte Risk Advisory; Acting Business Executive: Auditor-General of SA; PwC (Advisory and Audit & Assurance) where he completed his Articles. He has extensive experience servicing various clients in the Public and Private Sectors.

Fatima Newman has been appointed Chief Compliance Officer, effective 1 March 2026. Newman is a strategically minded Executive with 28 years’ experience across a range of industries and expertise in Risk, Compliance, Regulatory and Governance, and Financial Services. She has led with an innovation and systems thinking approach, working through complexities and implementing suitable and fit for purpose solutions including as Chief Risk Officer at EOH Group Limited (EOH). Newman has held senior roles in Absa, EasyHQ, EOH, and MTN South Africa.

Portwest Deepens East African Footprint with Apparel Manufacturing Investment in TanzaniaDar es Salaam, Tanzania

Portwest, the world’s fastest-growing manufacturer and distributor of workwear, safety wear and personal protective equipment (PPE), has strengthened its presence in East Africa with the operationalization of a new apparel manufacturing facility in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania—positioning the country as a strategic hub within the company’s global supply chain.

The investment has received strong support from the Government of Tanzania, which reiterated its commitment to creating a conducive environment for local and foreign investors.

Speaking during the official visit to the facility, Assistant Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Denis Londo, said the Government will continue to implement investor-friendly policies and legal frameworks to attract industrial investments.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Industry and Trade, will continue to put in place enabling policies, laws and regulations to attract investors and support the establishment of industries in the country,” said Hon. Londo.

Investments such as this apparel manufacturing facility demonstrate growing confidence in Tanzania’s industrial environment and our commitment to building a strong manufacturing base that creates jobs and adds value locally.

Founded in 1904 in Ireland and still owned and managed by the Hughes family, Portwest operates in more than 150 countries and employs over 5,500 people globally. The company is internationally recognised for innovation in occupational safety solutions, producing flame-resistant and high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, PPE accessories and fall-protection equipment.

The Dar es Salaam facility is currently employing 200 workers, with existing infrastructure capable of scaling up to 1,000 direct jobs. The investment is expected to contribute significantly to skills development, technology transfer and value addition, in line with Tanzania’s industrialisation agenda and the objectives of the East African Community (EAC).

Meanwhile, Human Resources Manager of the facility, Ms. Anna Lucas, revealed that the company has invested more than USD 8.8 million in the project.

This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Tanzania. Beyond production, we are creating sustainable employment opportunities for Tanzanian youth and contributing to skills development within the local workforce,” she said.

Some employees also noted that the factory has played a vital role in addressing youth unemployment by providing stable jobs and professional training opportunities.

Nasreen Karim Abdallah alikabidhiwa mfano wa hundi yenye thamani ya shilingi milioni 30, baada ya kuibuka mshindi wa droo kubwa iliyofanyika januari 21 mwaka huu, huku washindi wengine wa kila mwezi akiwemo Bw. Abdulrazak Ali Seif aliyepata TZS milioni 10, Bi. Aysha Mbarak Meghji aliyepata TZS milioni 5, na Bw. Gibbons Samuel Katule aliyepata TZS milioni 3 na wote kwa pamoja wakithibisha fedha hizo kuingizwa katika akaunti zao.

Akizungumza katika hafla hiyo, Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Benki ya Absa Tanzania, Bw. Obedi Laiser alisema, kampeni hiyo ililenga katika kuwazawadia wateja wao kwa kuendelea kutumia huduma za kibenki zilizo salama, rahisi na za kisasa; “Zaidi ya zawadi, tunajivunia mabadiliko chanya tuliyoyaona kuelekea matumizi ya miamala isiyo ya fedha taslimu, ambayo huokoa muda, hupunguza hatari na kuchangia ujumuishi wa kifedha, hafla ya leo inaashiria mafanikio ya kampeni ambayo yamebadilisha maisha ya watu wengi.

Dhamira yetu iko wazi, Kuiwezesha Afrika ya kesho, pamoja, hatua moja baada ya nyingine. Kila kampeni, kila ubunifu na kila zawadi tunayotoa inaongozwa na imani yetu kwamba Stori yako ina thamani”, alisema Bw. Laiser.

Kampeni hiyo ilionesha ongezeko kubwa la matumizi ya kadi na huduma za kidijitali, ikithibitisha mwelekeo unaokua wa wateja kupendelea huduma za kibenki zinazopatikana muda wowote na mahali popote, huku zikisaidia kupunguza foleni ndefu katika matawi na kuongeza kasi, usalama na urahisi wa huduma.

Akizungumzia mafanikio ya kampeni hiyo, Bi. Ndabu Swere alisema; Kampeni ya “Ujanja ni Kuswipe na Kadi ya Absa” inaonesha jinsi miamala midogo ya kila siku inavyoweza kuwa na nguvu kubwa. Wateja waliitikia vyema, wakidumu katika kufanya miamala kwa njia za kidijitali, na kwa upande wetu tuliweza kuwazawadia uaminifu wao kwa njia yenye maana.

Kwa upande wake, mshindi wa zawadi kubwa, Bi. Nasreen Karim Abdallah, aliishukuru Benki ya Absa kwa zawadi hiyo, akisema ushindi huo ni hatua muhimu katika maisha yake. Alibainisha pia urahisi wa kushiriki kampeni hiyo kwa kutumia tu kadi katika miamala ya kila siku.

Kilichonivutia zaidi ni urahisi wa kushiriki, ni kutumia tu kadi yangu kwenye matumizi ya kawaida. Zawadi hii haithibitishi tu umuhimu wa huduma za kidijitali katika maisha yetu ya kila siku, bali pia ni ya kubadilisha maisha,” alisema.

Benki ya Absa Tanzania imethibitisha dhamira yake ya kuendelea kubuni bidhaa na kampeni zinazowaletea wateja thamani zaidi, ikikumbusha kuwa mwaka 2024 benki hiyo ilitoa zawadi ya magari matatu na mwaka 2025 imetoa TZS milioni 120 kama zawadi za fedha taslimu.

Nathan Belete, Mkurugenzi wa Benki ya Dunia anayesimamia Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia na Zimbabwe, baada ya mkutano wa kimkakati wa kibiashara uliofanyika hivi karibuni katika Hoteli ya Hyatt Regency Park jijini Dar es Salaam. Mkutano huo ulilenga kuimarisha ushirikiano kati ya taasisi hizo mbili.
